Tide
02:44
|
|||
a rising tide in the spirit room
lifts every boat made of me and you
the salt dries in the empty space
and for a minute or two we won't act our age
at all
a rising tide in the spirit room
brings a light to the drywall gloom
the waves dance in the empty space
we left the last time we tried to paint
the walls
maybe next year we'll try the door
maybe next year we'll get out just a little bit more than we did this year
and I'm betting next year when we find the key
you'll turn it with me
turn it...
a rising tide in the spirit room

Jumbotron
02:18
|
|||
i was on the train to Frankford when the call came
and it filled my heart like a shopping cart through a faded plate-glass pane
disembarked in the dark but it was too late
and i met my doubts at the self-checkout with a courtesy complaint:
"i don't wanna do that anymore."
shaking like a snow globe, stuttering through the keyframes
can't be proud when the point you're making pokes a hole in everything
bathing the city in blue light from the shoreway
and the lexicon from the jumbotron in the stadium displays:
"i don't wanna do that anymore."
i hope this finds you well.

Hindsight
02:36
|
|||
with the benefit of hindsight
i had some time to get my mind right
i kept four plants under my desk light
to replace the stale air for me
look at how the chipped paint shrinks
I had a bit too much time to think
and now the letter on the door lets me know
"you don't live here anymore"
hey man this was never yours
you don't live here anymore

Seam Seen Splitting
04:40
|
|||
got this string that i'm pulling on now
(i'm pulling it now)
a seam seen splitting in the background
(I'm pulling it now)
so i'm letting it tear
like it was never there
here's me like i was never there
not unlike the air
ears still ring but i'm settling down
(i'm settling down)
a pace less pressing, but i'm pacing now
(i'm settling down)
say what you will of comfort
say what you will of peace
sometimes a bittersweet pill
and i'm swallowing still
consolidating threads wound over time and distance
an impulse trained to not meet change with such resistance
and if i lost a couple prime years caught up in my own shit
well i hope there was mutual benefit
here's checking bags for change while checking flight information
here's a checking phones for range between pristene destinations
here's coming home tired, searching for ways to explain
it was the trip of my life and the trip was more of the same
